The Sunrise Brunch

ft. Tricia Bachewich Events & Brenna Faris Photography

A few months back, Academy hosted our very own styled photoshoot alongside one of our favourite wedding planners, Tricia Bachewich Events at St. Boniface Country Club. With assistance from the ever so talented Brenna Faris Photography and Branek Videography, our vision came to life and we have the most beautiful photos to show for it. May we introduce to you our take on a Sunrise Brunch wedding.

We wanted bold, bright and happy colours with combinations that some couples might be a little nervous to take a risk on without seeing it in full swing. Brunch weddings are increasing in popularity and rightfully so. With the tight restrictions on dancing and social gatherings, the idea of a full party reception is not a realistic concept right now. The mid-morning ceremony followed by a breakfast inspired menu, is a wonderful option for early risers, intimate guest lists or couples that just really aren’t huge party people. Not to mention that it’s an excellent way to beat the summer heat and that afternoon sun. I don’t know about you, but celebrating with mimosa and waffles sounds pretty wonderful to me.

The first thing that we knew we wanted to showcase was Academy’s brand new chuppah! Built by a local contractor last fall, we have been dying to put some flowers on this bad boy. After more Pinterest searches than I’d like to admit, I realized this piece needed to feel like a floating garden. Think Bella and Edward’s enchanting fairy-garden wedding meets Kim and Kanye’s (too soon?) floral wall from heaven, except with a burst of oranges, pinks and yellows. We got the look of floating blooms throughout the entire centre by stringing the heads of dainty flowers through clear fishline. This element was my favourite from the entire day and our wedding team really outdid themselves!

We wanted the bouquet to pop against a white dress and showcase all the best of spring flowers in both colour and variety. Featuring butterfly ranunculus, garden roses, tulips, and larkspur, it is literally what dreams are made of. This garden style bouquet is a shop favourite because it allows our designers to be creative as no two bouquets are ever the same. This particular style allows the flowers to sit how they may instead of contorting them to fit into a certain shape, giving off a very organic and free spirited vibe.

Casting Chantelle and Bailey was a no brainer for this shoot and we couldn’t have been more excited to have them model for us! We did their wedding flowers last summer and I highly recommend checking out their link on our portfolio - you won’t be disappointed. They were so fun to work with and you don’t need me to tell you that the camera loves them.

flowers and fruit, yes please

We knew that the tables were our real chance to shine and showcase how much fun colour can be. Tricia’s eye for colour coordinating is amazing and she took my notes off paper and made them a reality. The soft pink tablecloth paired with the bubblegum pink napkins and elegant gold rimmed dinnerware were a perfect match. We accessorized the table with fruit and macarons to really bring out the colours and brunch theme but also to show that there are no limits or certain rules where your tables are concerned. They are a blank canvas and they can be as wild or as simplistic as you like. The floral element to this table is a smaller arrangement built on a flower frog. This is a tiny metal piece with spikes on it that gets attached to a bowl or plate that can hold water. Then, individual flower stems are placed through the spikes giving them an airy, unique look that is sure to impress without overwhelming other decor elements.

This head table was my first personal experience with bunched linen on an otherwise bare harvest table. We absolutely loved this look and I am so happy we made it happen. This is a great alternative to loose greenery or garlands if you are looking for something to fill the space but also keep it light and wispy. We added two garden style arrangements in gold pots to keep with the gold accents. Another common addition to this table would be to repurpose the bridal bouquet and/or bridesmaids bouquets. Deciding between tapered candles and pillar candles is also a big decision but when looking for that simple, elegant feel, tapered candles are the way to go. They leave you with the warmth and glow of real candle light but without the bulkiness that cylinders sometimes provide.

Another rental piece that we were extremely excited to work with again were our white grids. These freestanding structures are incredibly flexible and can serve many different purposes on your wedding day such as a welcome sign, a floral or greenery backdrop for the alter, a photo booth area, or, as we demonstrated, a seating chart. All stationary was provided by Asarye Paperie and they are the absolute best. For this shoot they did our menus, table numbers, and the entire welcome area. To compliment these beautiful name cards, we wanted smilax to be a big part of this piece as its ability to weave in and around the structure was essential to our overall aesthetic. The result was amazing and the coordinating florals really tie the ceremony and reception together perfectly.

Overall we all had a lot of fun preparing and setting up these beautiful floral arrangements and we cannot thank all of the vendors who worked along aside us enough. Stay tuned for our Moody Spring Style Shoot in the upcoming weeks, I cannot wait to show you!
